Lemaire Channel - Steep cliffs hem in the iceberg-filled strait, a calm haven between the mainland and Booth Island.
The Drake Passage - Whether Drake Lake, or the dreaded Drake Shake, the area is good for sighting whales and seabirds.
Hobart, Tasmania, Australia - Founded in 1803 as a penal colony, it is the financial and administrative heart of Tasmania.
Phantom Coast - Remote and challenging ice-locked coastline, explorers tried in vain to chart it for two centuries.
Ross Ice Shelf - About the size of France and several hundred meters thick, Ross dubbed it the Great Ice Barrier.
South Pole - Not be confused with the wandering Magnetic Pole, this is the southernmost point on Earth’s surface.
Ross Sea - Discovered by James Ross in 1841, a 33-ft long squid weighing half a ton was captured here in 2007.
McMurdo Sound - Its ice-clogged waters are a resupply route for ships and for aircraft that land on floating ice.
Amundsen Sea - Named for polar explorer Roald Amundsen, a subglacial volcano has been detected in the area.
Falkland Islands - Islas Malvinas in Spanish, the islands are known for spectacular wildlife, a rural lifestyle & wind.
Peter I Island - Ice-locked and difficult to access, only 800 people in history have been known to visit the island.
