West To East Expedition

(July 18 - August 5, 2010) Cruise for 19 days the legendary Northwest Passage from Anadyr, Russia to Resolute, Canada. This End of an Era *west to east* expedition is the final made by Khlebnikov. Special guest Andrew Lambert, bestselling historian reinterpreted the legacy of Sir John Franklin. Andrew will present talks about his reinterpretation of history during this Arctic adventure.

Anadyr, Russia - The easternmost town in Russia and an important sea port for the Bering Sea.
Anchorage, Alaska, USA - Unlike other towns in Alaska, this grew from neither fishing nor mining, but railroad construction.
Banks Island, Canada - The first grizzly-polar bear hybrid was found here in April 2006 near Sachs Harbour.
Beaufort Sea - Ongoing boundary dispute between Canada and US has increased in worth due to likely presence of oil.
Bering Strait - It’s speculated that humans walked from Asia to North America across a land bridge in the strait.
Boothia Peninsula - Named by John Ross, who met an Inuit community whom he described as living in “snow cottages.”
Devon Island, Canada - Earth’s largest uninhabited island, it supports a scant number of muskoxen, small birds and mammals.
Herschel Island, Canada - Sighted by John Franklin in 1826, when Inuvialuit settlements used it for hunting, fishing & whaling
Nome, Alaska - 1925 blizzard prevented delivery of diphtheria serum by plane during epidemic; sled dogs prevailed.
Provideniya, Russia - This port town houses a school, cinema, post office, and one of only two ski slopes in Chuckotka.
Resolute, Canada - One of the world’s coldest inhabited areas, the town got its start in 1953 in a relocation project.
Victoria Island, Canada - Though slightly larger than the island of Great Britain, it is actually named after Queen Victoria.
Wellington Channel - Natural waterway through the central Canadian Arctic Archipelago, running north/south.
