- Binocular Harness
My favorite piece of gear - the one that I cannot leave behind when I travel - is the harness from which my binoculars are suspended. I learned the hard way that I should have the binos with me whenever I am outside - on deck or ashore. The harness keeps them handy and out of the way. I won't be traveling without my harness in November!
I'm bird watching in the photo - that's Ireland's Charlie Bird in the red jacket. I can't remember what I was saying to him, but I remember vividly the day that the photo was taken.
Charlie, who is a household name in Ireland, was onboard filming an episode of a two part documentary for television. The series ran in January to a record audience. As a matter of fact - the footage in our
North Pole video guide - was shot for Charlie's special. Crossing the Line Films let us use it, and we thank them! And Charlie - he was a pleasure to get to know.
Charlie Bird's Arctic Journey airs again on RTE in Ireland, October 19 and 26, 2009. Coincidentally - Doug Allan - one of the special guests on Emperors and Kings - was the cinematographer for the first episode.
