Day 8 - We got to see Orca!

By Blog.Admin

Unfortunately, the weather has been rough this morning and we haven't been able to make our morning landing.  We did get to see some whales including an Orca!

In the afternoon we made our last landing of the trip. The weather is still rough and the wind was howling with a little rain.  The zodiac ride was great because the waves splashed us!  We arrived on land with an escort of zooming penguins and a whole bunch more on land. We travelled on a path through tons of chinstrap and gentou penguins to the top of a hill.  The wind as wild but we looked on a beach with amazing rock formations and seals. On this beach we wandered around and saw lots of fur seals and elephant seals. The elephant seals were young but they were still huge. There was also lots of debris including whale bones, a ships mast, and old boxes. When it was time to go I sat down and waited. Soon a penguin came right up to me and spent a couple of minutes just looking at me. He nibbled my glove a couple of times. I think he was saying goodbye when I left. He kind of looked at me like he didn't want to leave!

As we pulled up and left we were met by some of the highest winds we have seen and the ship was rocking!  Now it is off for two full days of the nasty Drake Passage before we head for home.

Before I finish I want to mention some other cool things about the trip:

  • There were people from 18 different countries on board this ship and they
  • were all a lot of fun and were really nice to me.
  • The meals were great and I ate like a king.
  • I loved the lectures about whales and birds and stuff like that that the
  • experts on board gave.
  • We had great fun with the games night!  Even if my team never won!
  • I hate the Drake Passage!
  • Ms. Clark...I did work on my homework...but I didn't like it!
  • Good Luck to my hockey team...The Highlanders!

Later guys...I'm heading home for my favourite subway sub!
