The Drake Passage

By Blog.Admin

Today was pretty quiet as we entered our first full day of our return trip across the Drake Passage. We have experienced some rockiness, but despite the waves it's still pretty calm. It was blue skies and sunshine all day, with lots of birds following the ship.Drake Passage Return

There's not much to report on our relaxing day at sea, so we'd like to take the opportunity to talk a bit about the overall experience. The Quark Staff and Expedition Team have been amazing. From the minute we came set foot aboard the ship, we've felt completely taken care of. The service provided by the ship's staff has been top-notch. Everyone has been so kind and made sure every need was met.

The crew that works the dining room amazed us every day, especially when the weather was rough. How they were able to glide around the dining room without dropping anything or losing their footing is beyond us. And, of course, the expedition staff with their great sense of humor, incredible knowledge, and years of combined experience made us feel humble to be on this trip with them. Also, a big thank you to our expedition leader, Martin, and our captain for running a tight ship and keeping us all safe.

It has been quite a journey filled with great memories of interesting people, breathtaking scenery, and amazing wildlife. Tomorrow morning, we start our final day at sea--with any luck, we'll be in sight of Cape Horn tomorrow morning and then we sail back to Ushuaia for the trip back to D.C.

This is our last posting at sea, but we'll post an update as soon as we get home, along with photos of the expedition. Thanks for joining us on our polar adventure!

I'm just catching up on your blog after being away for a week. It sounds like your trip more than lived up to expectations. I can't wait to hear more upon your return! Happy New Year!
