Embarkation and Departure

After a wonderful hike to the Laguna Esmereldas, we met with the Quark bus just outside of the port. We started to meet some of our fellow passengers as there were quite a few people waiting for the bus. It was fun to start meeting our fellow expeditioners! The bus took us into the port for safety reasons. We were excited to finally see our home for the next 10 days. After a quick off the bus, on the bus security stop we arrived at the gangway. This had to have been one of the easiest check in procedures- hand in our passport and a staff member showed us to our room. We did some exploring of the ship and then it was time for a safety briefing in the Panorama Lounge. Jim showed us how to get into a survival suit and then it was some more free time. After we left the port, the muster drill occurred. We were to show up in warm clothes and for the most part everyone did!

Most passengers had their Quark parkas by that time and that tended to be the warm clothing of choice. After a bit, we were invited to the Panorama Lounge again for a welcome champagne/juice and small appetizers. Here we also met our expedition crew as well as the boat crew. Around 7:30 we had a lovely dinner and now we are cruising through the mouth of the Beagle Channel. We have been told to Drake proof our cabins as we will enter into the Drake Channel sometime around midnight! Not sure whether to hope for the Drake Lake or the Drake Snake!! Patches are on though!
