Found: Ship Lost Searching for Franklin's Expedition

Parks Canada has a team of archaeologists in the Arctic searching for Erebus and Terror, Franklin's lost ships. Because of that search, the remains of HMS Investigator have been found, in Mercy Bay, off Banks Island in the Northwest Territories. HMS Investigator was the ship Captain Robert McClure used in his search for the missing Franklin expedition. McClure and his crew abandoned the vesssel after waiting two years for the ship to be released from the ice in which they were beset. The oral history of the indigenous people of the region - the Inuvialuit - is validated by the discovery, according to archaelogist Ryan Harris, quoted in a Toronto Star story by reporter Mary Ormsby.
The search for Erebus and Terror begins again in August near O'Reilly Island. You can cruise with an explorer who has searched for Franklin's lost ships in 2011. John Murray will be special guest aboard Arctic Passage. Arctic Passage is the final End of an Era voyage for Khlebnikov in the North.
