So few voyages, so little time!

We had a call last night from someone on the waiting list to participate in our Epic Antarctica voyage this winter. She was so far down the list, she despaired of getting aboard.

Around 4 AM this morning, the icebreaker began to roll. We knew we had entered open water. However, for this portion of the subantarctic seas, conditions were fairly mild. It was a good chance to get our sea legs, and become used to the rather peculiar movements of Kapitan Khlebnikov. We were awakened again, at 7:30 AM, by Jonas, announcing breakfast and informing of us current weather conditions.

The motor coach drive from Christchurch to Lyttelton was under overcast skies. After 45 minutes, we emerged from the mountain tunnel to see before us, a lovely little port surrounded on three sides by mountians.
