According to the history books, James Clark Ross discovered Snow Hill Island 168 years ago today, January 6, 2011. He did not know at the time how important that island would become in Antarctic history.

89 Years Ago Sir Ernest Shackleton's Exploring Came to an End

He was aboard Quest in Grytviken harbor, South Georgia. He was beginning the Shackleton-Rowett Expedition. That expedition was the last in the Heroic Age of Antarctic Expedition.

Sea Spirit is in Ushuaia, December 22, 2010

We are excited that Sea Spirit has arrived in Ushuaia to prepare to embark Antarctic cruisers for a 20-day expedition. We chartered the luxurious vessel to replace the ailing Clipper Adventurer, currently under repair.

The two governments operate research bases a short distance from each other in McMurdo Sound in the Ross Sea Sector.
