Ryan is from Florenceville, NB in Canada. Growing up his passion was hockey, playing and eventually coaching at the minor hockey and high school levels. That all changed to a passion for the outdoors when he moved to Jasper, AB in the Canadian Rockies when mountaineering, climbing and mountain biking got into his veins. Soon after moving back to the East Coast his love for sea kayaking began taking his first stroke at a certified course in 2008. Since then he has become a Paddle Canada sea kayak Level 4 paddler and a Paddle Canada sea kayak Level 2 Instructor, taken BCU coastal water and open water navigation courses and holds an advanced remote first responder certificate.
Ryan holds a University degree in business, where he pursued a professional accounting designation. Working for a global food company he worked in the corporate world being sent to Europe during his time. He also took the opportunity to work as a Finance Coordinator operating out of the Kandahar, Afghanistan for two years. He took advantage of the travel benefits while working in Afghanistan, cycling in New Zealand, trekking in Nepal, self drive safaris in Africa and sea kayaking in Sri Lanka are a few of his world travelling trips.
Ryan is now in his fifth Antarctic season, he has only done two trips in the Arctic with Quark, as he has been the Manager of Adventure High Sea Kayaking in Grand Manan, NB for the past 5 years.
Ryan loves to be outside whether it is in a kayak or on foot. He is excited to be in Antarctica again as he loves exploring new sites, meeting fascinating people, continuously learning about the area.
