Shelli Ogilvy was born and raised in Alaska. She grew up in a rural town separated from the road system, with glaciers, whales, bears and big mountains as her backyard. Shelli has been guiding as a wilderness leader since 1997. When not guiding on the ship, she works taking small groups by sea kayak out into the wilderness for overnight camping trips in Alaska. She has a deep love for place and ecosystems, finding peace and joy through sharing the experience of the wilderness.
Shelli obtained her Bachelors of Science in 2001 with a major in Marine Biology. She has worked with several different research groups, primarily studying humpback whales and gray whales. When not working, Shelli is an accomplished artist. She published an illustrated bird book in 2009 and continues to create and manage the challenges of making big messes in small spaces. Other interests include working on her small cabin in Alaska, fly fishing, harvesting natural foods (and eating them), and above all sharing laughter.
