Arctic Quest Greenland to Churchill

Our most diverse Arctic expedition aboard our new ship, the Sea Explorer. In addition to wildlife excursions by Zodiac and tundra hikes, you’ll spend time visiting fishing villages and Inuit settlements, taking time to learn about their heritage and culture. A wonderful expedition to a part of the world where polar bears, whales, seals and humans have all learned to co-exist for thousands of years.

Day 1 — Copenhagen, Denmark

Your Arctic adventure begins with an overnight stay in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Day 2 — Embarkation Day in Kangerlussuaq

Today’s charter flight will take you from Denmark to Greenland.

Days 3 to 4 — West Greenland

Icy fjords, colorful communities and a historical UNESCO World Heritage Site await you in Greenland.

Day 5 — At Sea

Turning west, most of your day will be spent at sea.

Day 6 — Monumental Island

This is a well-known island for potential close encounters with some of the Arctic’s most iconic creatures – walrus and polar bear.

Day 7 — Akpatok Island

Continuing along the eastern edge of Baffin Island in an area called Ungava Bay, your next landing is all about birds and bears.

Day 8 — Kimmirut

Stepping foot on Baffin Island at the tiny community of Kimmirut, you’ll have a chance to see how people here still live a traditional Inuit lifestyle.

Day 9 — Cape Dorset

This little hamlet is dubbed the “Capital of Inuit Art.”

Days 10 to 14 — Islands of Hudson

As your expedition heads into the second largest bay in the world, the focus turns back to wildlife watching.

Day 15 — Disembarkation Day in Churchill

Your final day in the Arctic will include a Zodiac excursion in search of beluga whales, which are often seen around the coastal areas here at Churchill, Manitoba.

Every Quark Arctic voyage includes great daily outdoor activities including Zodiac cruises, hiking and some also offer snowshoeing. We also offer kayaking on most of our voyages; a great way to experience the beauty of the Arctic in a more personal way. Kayaking in the Arctic is probably one of the most intimate and inspiring ways you can explore the rugged coastlines and calm bays of the regions we visit.

Kayaking in the Polar Regions is highly weather-dependent, however we guarantee at least one outing throughout your voyage, but your kayak guides will take you out as many times as possible throughout your voyage.

Offered on most Arctic voyages, spaces are limited and require some kayaking experience. All equipment, guides and instructions are provided by Quark. Please contact a Quark Polar Travel Adviser for more information.

Pre- and Post-Trip Options Extend Your Stay

Getting to the Arctic can be just as much fun as being there. Quark offers multiple travel packages that enable you to see more of the world before and after your Arctic adventure.

Enjoy a private transfer from Copenhagen airport to the hotel with English-speaking guide. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before taking your private morning sightseeing tour with English-speaking guide. Your tour of the city will include Copenhagen’s main sights: Gefion Fountain, Nyhavn’s colorful old harbor, City Hall Square and the Little Mermaid. No entrance fees included. (3 hours) On the final day, enjoy breakfast at the hotel and take some time to see the rest of the city at your leisure before your private transfer takes you to the airport.

Expedition Facts

Daily Briefings and Recaps

You will have regular briefings throughout the voyage. These briefings allow your Expedition Leader and Team to provide you with information about upcoming landings and any itinerary changes that may occur. During your recap sessions you are encouraged to share your experience and wildlife sightings or ask questions about the places you have just visited.

Bridge Visits

Say Hello to the Captain and Crew

During your voyage you may be invited to visit the Bridge, where you can observe how the Captain and officers sail and navigate the ship. A map of your expedition path will be available, so you can see exactly where you have been.

Onboard Lectures

Presentations by Quark’s Expedition Team are included as part of your voyage. Through formal illustrated presentations, as well as informal briefings, the Quark Expeditions Team will cover a range of topics including ornithology, marine biology, glaciology, geography, geology, history and the environment.
