Emmy Winning Wildlife Cinematographer Doug Allan

Joins Quark Expeditions' Emperors & Kings: Snow Hill and South Georgia

[03.25.09 - NORWALK, CT] An already outstanding Antarctic expedition has just become extraordinary. Doug Allan, Emmy and BAFTA winning wildlife cinematographer, has joined Emperors & Kings: Snow Hill and South Georgia. This 22-day expedition takes adventure travelers to an Emperor Penguin rookery near Snow Hill Island, as well South Georgia, the habitat of the King Penguin. Doug's participation is in addition to that of internationally acclaimed wildlife artist Robert Bateman and photographer Birgit Freybe Bateman.

Doug may be best known for work as a principal cameraman on the BBC Natural History Unit's award-winning documentaries Blue Planet and Planet Earth. Doug contributed stunning footage to the Disneynature film Earth, which premiers in North America, April 22, 2009.

In addition to three outstanding special guests, the Expedition Team will include Sue Flood. She is a wildlife photographer with an unrivaled international reputation. She will co-present with Doug, her husband, behind-the-scenes footage and stills. The couple will tell about their working partnership in remote polar environments. After the insights the two share, travelers will never watch a documentary the same way, again.

If four outstanding speakers, onboard helicopters for aerial-sightseeing, and the legendary polar-class icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov were not enough to make this voyage extraordinary – there are the penguins. Emperors, Kings, Gentoo, Chinstrap, Rockhopper and Magellanic – seven of the 17 species of penguin could be seen during this voyage! This is the Royal Tour for penguin fanciers.
