Erica Wikander, Environmental Officer
Erica was born in New Zealand, but lived most of her life in Australia until she moved to the US in 1991, when she joined the staff of Quark Expeditions. She, together with Floret Lyew, became one of the original staff engaged in setting up the company.
Erica first began traveling to Antarctica in the mid-eighties. She immediately became passionate about the polar regions and an advocate for the protection of their fragile environment.
Since 1992, when Quark Expeditions became of a member of IAATO (International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators) Erica has been actively involved with the organization. Her knowledge of the Antarctic Treaty, the Environmental Protocol and IAATO's Code of Conduct and By-laws, combined with her extensive first hand experience of Antarctica has been invaluable to the operation of Quark Expeditions' south polar programs.
"I enjoy very much being a part of this expedition cruise company. Quark Expeditions has always worked hard to provide our travelers with the best possible product. My personal satisfaction in working in this industry is to watch the faces of our guests and see their joy and amazement at first encountering the polar regions. To me, this drives everything we do."
