Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) Wildlife

Wildlife Cruise

For the first time ever, Quark is offering a wildlife cruise to the Falkland Islands - one departure only - November 6 to 14, 2011.

The Falklands (Malvinas) are of great interest for wildlife enthusiasts, in particular birders. There are 63 breeding species and 23 annual migrants, plus a long list of others that arrive occasionally.

There are no native land mammals, but plenty of marine mammals, many of them the same as those that frequent the waters of Antarctica. The Peale's dolphin is a coastal species that is regularly seen in small groups. There are two eared seals - the Falklands fur seal, different from the Antarctic fur seal - and the southern sea lion.
