Trekking To Trollsteinen Across the Lars Glacier (5-7 Hours)


Want a real work-out? And lunch with a stunning view. This is the essential extra to choose. The terrain is rugged and portions of the trail are steep. Trekking boots are a must. Leggings are recommended due to snow and slush when crossing the glacier.


The adventure begins in Nybyen. You’ll climb a moraine to the foot of the Lars Glacier. Negotiating the glacier, you wend your way to Trollsteinen, 2700 fee (849 meters) above sea level. Lunch is served with an extraordinary visat of Nordenskiold Land. After lunch the journey ends with a trek across the Longyearbyen Glacier.

Foxfonna Glacier Hike (6 Hours)


This hike begins 1,800 feet above sea level (550 meters) with an outstanding view over Adventdalen and Isfjorden. The stunning backdrop is a mountain range. Our goal is Foxdalen, but first we must negotiate the Foxbreen glacier on foot. The trek will take between 3 and 4 hours. So you`ll be ready for the hot lunch you`ll find waiting in the trapper`s cabin. We return to the Villmarkssenter by the lowland route. Pack your hiking boots if you plan to join this essential extra.

Spitsbergen Vista
Spitsbergen, Svalbard


Isfjord Safari to hunt for Fossils (6 Hours)


Time travel 150 million years in under 6 hours. Your time machine? An open boat on a Spitsbergen fjord, so be sure to pack hat, gloves and hiking boots. You`ll wear a floatsuit while on board en route to Deltaneset, where the trek to the fossil hunt begins. A team from the Museum of Natural History in Oslo, Norway uncovered three prehistoric dinosaurs nearby during a dig, in the area. You may keep one of the fossils you find as a souvenir.


The return journey to the present includes a light meal and hot drink, as well as a cruise past the Diabas bird cliff to see Atlantic Puffins and Thick-billed Murres.

Hike to Nordenskioldtoppen – The Highest Mountain in the vicinity of Longyearbyen (8 Hours)


An all-day adventure with opportunities to encounter wildlife and to get to know some very special Greenland dogs. The first stage is a hike from Taubanesentralen to a plateau 1300 feet above sea level (400 meters). Following the plateau, you’ll watch for reindeer, and vibrant Arctic flowers. The next phase of the trek is along a ridge to the summit. Lunch and a well-earned rest awaits you at the top. The descent is alogn a ridge and down the narrow Tverrdalen valley. Pack a windproof jacket and pants, plus gloves or mittens. A good pair of hiking boots is a must.

Kayaking on the Advent Fjord (8-9 Hours)


Participate in this paddling adventure, and you’ll be eligible to kayak during the Quark cruise. This 7 hour event qualifies as previous kayaking experience, because you will practice a wet exit. You’ll paddle as far as Hiorthhamm on Adventfjord. You’ll land to rest and enjoy a hot lunch. Before re-entering the kayaks, you’ll tour on foot a historic mining settlement.

The climb is worth every calorie you burn. The view from the summit over Longyearbyen and Isfjorden is spectacular. You’ll pause during the trek to visit some historic sites and to have a hot lunch. Bring your hiking boots, a windproof jacket, gloves and a hat. You’ll be talking about this adventure for days.

Terms and Conditions


Most of the tours are based on a minimum number of passengers in order for the trip to proceed. The decision for a tour to proceed or not is usually determined locally 24 hours prior up to 1 hour prior to departure. If your tour is cancelled, you will be notified at your hotel in Longyearbyen. You will be offered to rebook a confirmed tour on the same day of equal or lesser value or Quark Expeditions will provide a refund of the cancelled tour.
