For travelers embarking and disembarking in Longyearbyen, Svalbard.

Safari to Fuglefjellet and Hiorthamn (3 Hours)

For this Arctic birding experience, you’ll dress in a float suit for a drive in a sturdy open boat to Bjorndalen, where thousands of sea birds nest in June and July. Next stop is an historic Russian mining settlement, Grumant. You travel back a century with visits to Advent City and Hiorthhamn, two other Svalbard mining communities.

This is an outdoor adventure, so hats and gloves are recommended, as well as waterproof boots.

Included:

  • Sea transport

  • Use of a flotation suit.

Hunt for Fossils and Commune with your Inner Canine (3 Hours)

You’ll meet your human guide and a canine escort in Nyben. Together you hike to Longyearbyen glacier where you’ll search for fossals in the moraine rubble. You can keep the fossils you find as souvenirs. Although the hike is only 45 minutes each way, the terrain is demanding. You’ll cross running streams. So dress appropriately – waterproof boots, hats, gloves and windproof clothing.

Included:

  • Transportation to and from your hotel to the head of the trail.

  • Guide with safety equipment.

Arctic Summer Dogsledding (3 Hours)

The sled is replaced by a wheeled wagon. The dogs, however, are the real deal, trained to pull sleds in winter and wagons in summer. Each wagon is pulled by 4 dogs, and you’ll have a chance to drive. This is as close to dogsledding as you get when there is no snow around.

Included:

  • Transportation to and from your hotel to the dogsledding site.

  • Hot drinks and snacks

Trail Riding on Icelandic Horses (3 Hours)

Early Antarctic explorers brought Icelandic ponies with them, because they are especially adapted to the harsh climate of Iceland. There are only 5 Icelandic ponies on the island of Spitsbergen. So this is a rare experience indeed.

From the saddle you’ll see the coast of Vestpynten, with its backdrop of magnificent mountains. Bird life abounds, and the tundra is blooming.

Beginners are welcome!

Included:

  • Transportation to and from your hotel to riding stable.

  • Riding instruction.

  • Use of a riding helmet.
