Oslo and Bergen

For travelers en route to Longyearbyen, Svalbard, this extension is available for all Arctic Expeditions.  

You ride the scenic Bergen Railway. Your seats are first class, as is the sightseeing en route. The Bergen Railway was voted one of the 20 best railway experiences in the world.

Your journey to Bergen is broken by a rail excursion on the Flam Railway, a 20 km long ride from the mountain station of Myrdal to Flam, situated on the edge of a fjord. The 55 minute journey is through some of Norway’s most magnificent countryside.

After visiting the Flam Railway Museum, you board a boat to sail down one of the most narrow fjords in Europe – Naeroyfjord, designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. At Gudvangen, you disembark and board a motor coach for a hair-raising ascent up the steep bends of Stalheimsleiva. At Voss you board the Bergen Railway for the final leg of the journey to Bergen.

  • 2 nights hotel accommodation in Oslo with breakfast daily.

Itinerary

Day 1

  • You are met by an English-speaking driver at the airport and transferred to your hotel.
  • The remainder of the day is at leisure.
  • Overnight at the hotel in Oslo.

Day 2

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • You and an overnight bag are transferred to the train station, where you board the scenic Bergen Railway, in first class. Please note: transfer not applicable with Hotel Thon package as the hotel is 5 minutes away from the station.
  • A rail excursion on the Flam Railway. • Board a boat to sail down one of the most narrow fjords in Europe – Naeroyfjord.
  • Ride a motor coach up Stalheimsleiva.
  • Transfer via Bergen Railway to Bergen, first class.
  • Overnight at a hotel in Bergen.

Day 3

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • The early morning is at leisure in Bergen.
  • A late morning private transfer from your hotel to the train station.
  • First class train to Oslo.
  • At the Oslo train station, private transfer to the hotel.  Please note: transfer not applicable with Hotel Thon package as the hotel is 5 minutes away from the station.
  • Overnight at the hotel in Oslo.

Day 4

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • Private transfer by an English-speaking driver to the airport.
