Kayaking, Camping,
Cross-country Skiing and Mountain-climbing
Optional Activities are Available
Heart-pounding, sensory-overloading excitement is the hallmark of every polar expedition. Imagine floating among towering icebergs in Zodiacs as seals and penguins dash past and under the boat: Awe-inspiring. Consider communing with nature on a hike across tundra dotted with vibrant Arctic wildflowers: Unforgettable.
For some adventurers, this baseline of excitement is not sufficient. They seek an extra jolt of adrenaline when they travel. Our polar adventure options are for travelers that want to amp up the excitement.
- Kayaking - Paddling in boats strong enough for icy, pristine polar seas.
- Camping - We pitch high-tech tents in our backyard - the Arctic and Antarctica.
- Cross-country skiing - In the Antarctic, we break trails, we don't follow them.
- Mountaineering - We don't just climb mountains, we name them in Antarctica.
Kayaking in the Arctic and Antarctica
If you have paddled the waters of New England or Alaska; if you have kayaked off the coast of California or Canada's Maritimes, you are ready for polar sea-kayaking.
Polar kayaking takes place in one of the roughest and toughest environments on Earth. When you settle yourself in one of our kayaks, you should already be comfortable getting in and out and have practiced an emergency wet exit.
Once you have booked your optional adventure, you will received a set of preparation notes that lists the gear supplied and the gear you must bring with you.
Cost per person in the Arctic: $495. Cost per person in the Antarctic: $795.
Camping in the Arctic and Antarctica
No camping experience is necessary, because camping in the polar regions is unlike any camping done in other parts of the world. The equipment supplied is designed for low temperature adventures.
Depending on the choice of itinerary and dates of travel, campers may experience only a few hours of twilight. At other times, campers may feel as if they can touch the stars. No two polar camping adventures are alike.
Cost per person: $195.
Cross-country skiing in Antarctica
We provide the equipment, skiers provide the drive and desire. There will be no groomed trails. Everyone must be prepared to negotiate inclines. This is cross-country skiing as it was practiced by explorers of old.
Safety is paramount, so skiers may find themselves roped together for portions of the adventure. Participants must be reasonably fit for this heart-pumping option that takes place in some of the most remote locations on Earth.
Cost per person: $550.
Mountaineering
Not for the faint of heart, our mountaineering option is for adventurers with above average physical fitness and mental stamina. Climbers will use crampons and ice axes while they explore mountains that my never have been climbed or named. Each climbing adventure can last up to 10 hours, if local conditions are optimum.
Once booked, we send you a list of the equipment supplied, as well as a list of the gear you must bring.
Cost per person: $550.
