Jaymie MacAulay

Jaymie started as an intern at Quark in February 2011, and was later hired for the position of merchandise coordinator. Jaymie has always had a passion for travel, and has been to 6 of the 7 continents. In January 2012, she embarked on her first Quark trip – Crossing the Circle on the Sea Spirit, and absolutely fell in love with all that the Polar Regions had to offer.

What was the most memorable part of the Quark trip?

There were many amazing memories made on my trip, but taking the zodiacs around Spert Island was definitely something I will never forget!  The arches and caves in the landscape make you feel as if you are on a foreign planet, and there was plenty of wildlife for our photographs!

Advice to polar travellers?

Make sure you are dressed properly, and in layers! The last thing you want is to be cold or wet. Wear synthetic fibres to wick moisture away and make sure you have waterproof gear on from head to toe! You are in one of the most photogenic places in the world, so bring a camera, but be sure to carry a waterproof bag to protect it from the harsh weather you might encounter. The perfect place to buy these items is at our online gear shop, or onboard the ship at our Polar Boutique.

What do you love about your job?

My job allows me to interact with suppliers from all over the world which is amazing!  No two days are alike in my role, and I truly have a passion for merchandising and everything it entails. Of course, I can’t deny that I’m extremely lucky because I have a dream job of shopping for those cuddly penguin and polar bear items you see onboard!
