Carol Francis, Historian

Carol has studied the Polar Regions since 1980 when she joined Roald Amundsen Lodge 6-48, Sons of Norway, in Sacramento.  She has a Masters in History at California State University, Sacramento, with a focus on world history and medieval history, and has a deep passion for polar history.  


She is fluent in Norwegian from being an exchange student in Norway and working on a farm and in a prison, and speaks passable German and Spanish.  Carol is joining the Quark team this season and looking foward to sharing her passion for travel.

What skills do you bring to the job?

She has volunteered for Antarctic and Arctic trips with Students on Ice out of Ottawa, Canada.  Her favorite trip was a Blue Whale Research project with this program, and you will probably find her on the bridge looking for whales, her secondary passion.  Carol has traveled widely, and works as a travel agent in Citrus Heights, California.
