"Professional background as a biologist, ecologist and natural historian, lecturer and presenter. I'm a keen photographer and Zodiac driver."

What keeps you returning season after season?

"The sheer beauty and grandeur of the continent. It is different every time I visit. I also have an ever increasing appreciation of the importance of the continent to our planet."

If you could time travel, which historic expedition would you join, and why?

"Captain Cook and the early sealers to experience the wildlife when it was at its most abundant before human beings began their exploitation of marine mammals."

Mark's advice to Polar Travelers

"Travel with an open mind. See the beauty of the landscape in whites, grays and blues. Sunny days are a bonus."
