Carolyn Stec
Carolyn, Assistant Hotel Manager aboard Akademik Vavilov, was told at the age of 15 that the cruise industry was no place for a woman. She set out to prove them wrong. After earning a degree in Culinary Arts, she discovered that she preferred to work with guests. So she returned to school to earn a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
Carolyn's Professional Experience
After working in a variety of hotels on dry land, she joined a ship's hospitality team and found her professional niche. She says, working on ships is addictive. She took a two-year break and found she had to come back.
What keeps her coming back season after season?
"Always having a change of scenery outside the dining room windows. Showing guests they can have a comfortable and enjoyable holiday while on an expedition."
Carolyn's advice for Polar Travelers
"Come prepared with camera equipment and plenty of memory. You'd be amazed at how many fantastic pictures you'll take. Even a beginning photographer will end up with professional quality pictures."
