Jake Morrison
Jake began his polar career as gift shop manager & guide aboard our ice-strengthened vessels. While immediately captivated by the beautiful landscapes, rich wildlife and adventurous working conditions, he also took keen interest in the logistics aspect of successfully running expeditions in the remote Polar Regions. Jake now works with the operations team that ensures our ships are stocked with the best staff and equipment; delivering a safe, efficient & exciting adventure to everyone who chooses to travel with Quark Expeditions.
Jake recommends:
What skills do you bring to the job?
I’ve spent the better part of my life on the water and have a solid understanding of the equipment we use. I have a degree in operations management; focused on logistics, technology and event management. Since completing my semester abroad, I have made my way to all seven continents; learning and experiencing the degree of excitement offered by the travel industry.
What keeps you coming to work?
Knowing that what we do here keeps field operations running as smooth as possible. We never know what challenges the next day might bring, and the need to effectively respond to these challenges creates a dynamic working environment fueled by innovation.
Jake's advice for Polar Travelers:
Sea days are so much more than transit time; put in your time on the bridge, outer decks, in presentations and chatting with staff & fellow explorers – it’s great fun and before you know it you’ll be stepping foot on Antarctica…or South Georgia…or Greenland…or Spitsbergen…or the North Pole! Heck, is one voyage really enough?
