About Aven King
Aven grew up in the foothills of Colorado, with the great Rocky Mountain wilderness in her backyard. Raised by Outward Bound instructors, she learned backcountry basics and conservation at an early age.
Aven attended Williams College in Massachusetts and earned degrees in astrophysics and art history. During that time, she was fortunate to continue traveling the world and spent a summer in Australia, where, when diving the Great Barrier Reef, she rediscovered her love for all things ocean related. After graduation, she moved to Kauai, Hawaii, to get her PADI Divemaster certification and spend as much time as possible under the water.
Eventually, Aven just couldn’t take all those white-sand beaches, palm trees and coconuts and decided she needed more cold weather in her life, so she moved to Alaska to work as a guide in Kenai Fjords National Park and teach marine education. Soon after, she found herself working for Quark Expeditions in Antarctica and the Arctic, where she combines her passion for education, marine life and conservation with polar adventure. She has been guiding and working in the Polar Regions with Quark since 2015 and is excited to join the team for another wonderful season.
In her spare time, Aven can often be found drawing and sketching. She has also expanded her artistic repertoire to include murals, clothing and fine art.
