About Federico Gargiulo

History Presenter & Guide

Born in Rosario, Argentina, Federico graduated from the Universidad del Salvador in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in tourism. Since then, he has spent most of his life in Ushuaia, in the Tierra del Fuego region of Argentina, where he worked as a guide. In the area’s cold latitudes, he became very fond of trekking and mountaineering, as well as the world of literature.

Traveling 311 miles (500 km) on foot throughout the island inspired his first book, Huellas de Fuego: Relatos de una expedición al Fin de la Tierra (2007), which was translated into English, French, German and Portuguese. In 2008, he took on the role of publisher, founding the publishing house Südpol, which specializes in travel literature. Amongst his personal preferences (which are most certainly varied), he enjoys traveling, dancing the tango, reading anything related to history, and going on expeditions to the Polar Regions.

Federico first journeyed to the Polar Regions in 2006, when he embarked on an Antarctic trip aboard Bark Europa, a 3-masted sailing ship, as a sailor. Since then, he has been involved in expeditions not only to the White Continent but also to the Arctic regions.

He is fluent in Spanish and English, and can also speak German and a little bit of French.
