About John Wallington
John grew up with a family background in meteorology and small sailing boats. His love of wood and practical enthusiasm allowed him not only to sail and paddle but also to build boats and kayaks. After becoming a commercial balloon pilot, he quickly developed an interest in adventure flying. He made the first non-stop trans-Australia crossing by balloon and the first and only balloon flight from New Zealand to Australia. These flights set distance and duration records to which John later added the Australian balloon altitude record. He now enjoys sharing his experiences by instructing and also helping with other projects, such as Russian Arctic adventurer Fedor Konyukhov’s solo around-the-world balloon flight.
