Russ is from Victoria, on southern Vancouver Island, Canada, and has been a boat captain and wildlife guide since 2007. He has always had a passion for adventure, education about local wildlife, ecosystems and area history.

Prior to guiding, Russ worked as a firefighter/ paramedic in the southern United States before moving back to Canada to join the Coast Guard marine search and rescue team. Back home in British Columbia, he is active in several conservation groups including salmon enhancement projects, beach cleanups and many other organizations.

Traveling to the Polar Regions is a life changing experience for many and Russ loves the excitement and energy that he sees from all of our polar guests. Russ loves adventure, and has a knack for finding whales. He is often known for his witty commentary and enthusiasm - guests are in for an epic experience!
