Ryan is from Florenceville, New Brunswick in Canada. Growing up, his passion was all things hockey. He played and eventually coached at the minor hockey, high school, junior and senior levels. That all changed to a passion for the outdoors including mountaineering, climbing and mountain biking after moving to Jasper, Alberta in the Canadian Rockies. After moving back to the east coast to be closer to his son Liam, his love for sea kayaking in the Bay of Fundy began. Ryan holds his Paddle Canada Sea Kayak level 4 skills, and his level 2 Instructor certificates, taken BCU coastal water and open water navigation courses and holds an Advanced Remote First Responder certificate.
Ryan completed a university degree in Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick, after which he pursued a professional accounting designation. Working for the internationally recognized company, McCain Foods, he spent three years working in the corporate world as a Financial Accountant. Unable to sit in a cubicle any longer and being the adventurous spirit that he is, he took an opportunity to work as a Finance Coordinator operating out of Kandahar, Afghanistan. He is very proud to have spent his time helping the Canadian Forces. He took advantage of the travel benefits while working in Afghanistan, cycling in New Zealand, trekking in Nepal, explored Botswana and Namibia in Africa, and sea kayaked in Sri Lanka are just a few of his world travelling highlights.
Ryan has been working for Quark since 2012 during the Canadian winters. During the summers, he spends his time managing Adventure High Sea Kayaking on Grand Manan Island but has recently joined the Outward Bound Canada team as an Outdoor Education Instructor.
Ryan loves to be outside whether it is in a kayak or on foot. He is excited to be in Antarctica again as he loves exploring new sites, meeting fascinating people, and continuously learning about the area.
