URGENT NOTICE: Updated Coronavirus Travel Policy

The health and safety of our passengers and staff is always our highest priority. Quark Expeditions has been monitoring the situation concerning the Coronavirus outbreak that began December 2019 in Wuhan, China. As a result, Quark Expeditions has upgraded our outbreak prevention protocols on board as well as pre-screening procedures prior to embarkation which applies to all ship personnel, crew, expedition team and guests.

The following additional preventative measures are being taken:

1) Updates to the pre-boarding public health questionnaire to include questions concerning the Novel coronavirus.

2) Screening for all passengers prior to embarkation. Passengers will be screened for body temperatures of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit/ 38 degrees Celsius or higher and for signs of respiratory issues. If guests are determined unwell to travel, they will not be allowed to board.

International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (IAATO) has shared the following Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) guidelines with its members, including Quark Expeditions, and has highly recommended the adoption of this updated policy:

  • CLIA Members are to deny boarding to all persons who have traveled from, visited or transited via airports in China, including Hong Kong and Macau, South Korea, Iran and any municipality in Italy subject to lockdown (quarantine) measures by the Italian Government within 14 days before embarkation.
  • CLIA Members are to deny boarding to all persons who, within 14 days before embarkation, have had close contact with, or helped care for, anyone suspected or diagnosed as having Coronavirus, or who is currently subject to health monitoring for possible exposure to Novel Coronavirus.
  • CLIA Members are to conduct pre-boarding screening necessary to effectuate these prevention measures. Enhanced screening and initial medical support are to be provided, as needed, to any persons exhibiting symptoms of suspected Novel Coronavirus.

Quark Expeditions has adopted this policy effective for all ships and voyages until further notice. This policy will continue to be monitored over the coming days and weeks as new developments arise with Coronavirus outbreak prevention measures, either being enhanced or relaxed.

We recommend that to avoid being denied boarding under this CLIA policy, guests change their travel schedule to depart from or avoid transit through China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Iran and any municipality in Italy subject to lockdown (quarantine) measures by the Italian Government within 14 days prior to embarkation.

 

1) What if I have transited through China, Macau, Hong Kong, South Korea, Iran or Italian airports within 14 days of embarkation date?

OR

2) What if I am still in China, Macau, Hong Kong, South Korea, Iran or Italy and my trip is within 14 days?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to embark on your vessel as your travel period away from either China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Iran or any municipality in Italy subject to lockdown (quarantine) measures by the Italian Government does not meet the 14 day requirements as set out by CLIA. Please contact Quark Expeditions or your booking agent to rebook your voyage on a future date for a similar voyage within 2 years on select voyages. Additional restrictions apply.

3) What if I am travelling through or originating from China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Iran or Italy and my trip is more than 14 days away?

We recommend that to avoid being denied boarding under this CLIA policy, guests change their travel schedule to avoid transiting through China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea or, depart/transit through China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Iran and any municipality in Italy subject to lockdown (quarantine) measures by the Italian Government within 14 days before embarkation. If you do not change your travel schedule to meet the CLIA 14 day policy, there is a risk that this travel policy will still be in effect on your embarkation date and you will be denied boarding.

There will be no refunds or rebooking offers for anyone who fails to comply with this notice.

Please note that Quark Expeditions will not provide any refunds, rebooking or name changes for passengers with medical concerns prior to traveling to the ship.
