About Aven King
Aven grew up in the foothills of Colorado, USA, with the vast wilderness of the Rocky Mountains in her backyard. Raised by Outward Bound instructors, she learned backcountry basics and conservation from an early age.
Aven attended Williams College in Massachusetts, where she earned a double degree in astrophysics and art history. During this time she was fortunate enough to travel the world, spending a summer in Australia, and diving the Great Barrier Reef where she rediscovered her love for the ocean. After graduation, she moved to Kauai, Hawaii to get her PADI Divemaster certification and spent as much time as possible underwater. Taking her cue from the Hawaiian humpback whales, Aven migrated up to Alaska and worked as a guide in Kenai Fjords National Park teaching marine education. In 2015, she began working for Quark Expeditions in Antarctica and the Arctic where she combined her passion for education, marine life, conservation and polar adventure. She is excited to join the team for another wonderful season in the Polar Regions.
In her spare time, Aven works on artwork for her art company AK Designs Ink, enjoys playing the ukulele and exploring the wilderness surrounding her new hometown of Seattle, Washington.
