About Raefe Kirk-Lauritsen
Born and raised in Queensland, Australia, Raefe has always had a love of the outdoors. He has spent most of his life in or on the water or climbing, riding or skiing in the mountains with his family. A career in the Australian military gave him the opportunity to travel to some of the wildest places in the world, meeting wonderful people and exposing him to many amazing cultures. As a result of these experiences, he maintains a keen interest in both politics and international relations.
Raefe studied at the University of Tasmania’s Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, is both a qualified raft guide and a ski instructor and is passionate about sharing his wilderness experiences. It is this passion that led him to the Polar Regions to showcase the beauty of nature to his fellow adventurers. Though he has a deep affection for the wildlife, it is the lure of being on the water, amongst the ice in a small boat, that sees Raefe return to the Polar Regions.
When not on an expedition, Raefe works as a management consultant for an international consulting firm and spends as much time as possible on his eco-friendly farm or exploring the wilderness of his adopted home of Tasmania with his wife and dog.
