About Ryan Munro
From Florenceville, New Brunswick, Canada, growing up, Ryan was passionate about all things hockey. He played and eventually coached at the minor hockey, high school, junior and senior levels. But after he moved to Jasper, Alberta, in the Canadian Rockies, that all changed to a passion for the outdoors, including mountaineering, climbing and mountain biking. Then, after returning to the East Coast to be closer to his son Liam, Ryan’s love of sea kayaking in the Bay of Fundy began. Ryan holds sea kayak level 4 skills and level 2 instructor certificates from Paddle Canada, has taken BCU coastal-water and open-water navigation courses and has an advanced remote first-responder certificate.
After completing a business administration degree from the University of New Brunswick, Ryan pursued a professional accounting designation and spent 3 years in the corporate world as a financial accountant, working for the internationally recognized McCain Foods. Unable to sit in a cubicle any longer and having an adventurous spirit, Ryan decided to work as a finance coordinator operating out of Kandahar, Afghanistan. He is very proud to have spent his time helping the Canadian Armed Forces. While working in Afghanistan, he took advantage of the travel opportunities; cycling in New Zealand, trekking in Nepal, exploring Botswana and Namibia in Africa, and sea kayaking in Sri Lanka are just a few of his world traveling highlights.
Since 2012, Ryan has spent Canadian winters working with Quark Expeditions. During summer, he manages Adventure High Sea Kayaking on the island of Grand Manan, New Brunswick, and also recently joined the Outward Bound Canada team as an outdoor education instructor.
Whether it is in a kayak or on foot, Ryan loves being outside. He is excited to be in Antarctica again, exploring new sites, meeting fascinating people and learning more about the area.
