Steve Bradley

Expedition Guide, Photography Guide

From an early age, Steve has been out in the wild exploring, hunting, and enjoying the best of New Zealand. An early fascination with wildlife documentaries led Steve to pursue a role behind the camera through his studies at Christchurch Polytechnic School of Professional Photography, allowing him to explore his style of photography. Outside his studies, he also gained invaluable skills working as a chef and spent several years travelling, photographing, and cooking his way around Europe and Asia. Returning to his hometown of Akaroa, New Zealand, at the enthusiastic and naïve age of 25, he opened his own Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. After a decade of hard toil, high stress levels and hair loss, wonderful people, and memories he will never forget, the call of the ocean beckoned him…to buy a sailboat. He sailed this home of five years from the shores of New Zealand to the Pacific Islands and back.

Steve’s varied background, along with his photography skills, have led him around the world — working on scientific projects with Southern Right Whales to capturing memory shots of tours he guides, be it in the Indian Himalayas, Melanesia, or the New Zealand Sub-Antarctic Islands. When not on the ships, Steve loves being at home to enjoy the bounty of his veggie garden, teach cooking classes, guide hunting trips around the South Island, or roam the hills with his partner and their dog, a Huntaway cross named Tui.
