Robert Idlout calls Pond Inlet, Nunavut, home. Growing up in the High Arctic, he has spent his life learning from the land, the sea ice, and the traditions of his community. As a hunter, he carries forward skills passed down through generations, with a deep respect for sustainable practices and for understanding wildlife and weather in the North.
Robert has been sharing Inuit culture since 2015. As a cultural performer, he specializes in drum dancing and Inuit games, and he brings that same energy and storytelling to the expedition team. He uses song, movement, and hands-on demonstrations to help guests connect with Inuit history, values, and the living culture of the Arctic today.
In July 2025, Robert joined a student cruise from Iceland to Greenland on the ice. That experience introduced him to expedition cruising and deepened his interest in sharing northern knowledge with travelers from around the world. It was part of what inspired him to pursue work in the cruise industry.
Outside his work with Quark, Robert enjoys being on the land hunting, spending time with family and Elders, and practicing traditional crafts. His advice to first-time adventure travelers is to come with an open mind, listen to the stories, and remember that the Arctic is not empty. It is home, and it is full of life, knowledge, and people.
