Steve Ruskay

Expedition Guide, Paddle Excursion Guide

Steve has been guiding wilderness expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic since 2006. Some of his favourite polar expeditions include kayaking in the Scoresby Sund Fjord, Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland; multi-night self-supported kayak trips on the Antarctic Peninsula; and cross-country skiing the north coast of Baffin Island, Canada.

In his home city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Steve works as a professional firefighter, an Urban Search and Rescue Technician, Rope and Water Rescue Technician, Technical Rescue Instructor, and First Aid Instructor. In the past, Steve has worked as an avalanche forecaster in the Canadian Rockies, a cruise boat captain on Georgian Bay, Ontario, and as a whitewater canoeing Instructor Trainer.

In the off season, you may find Steve on the waterski course, backcountry skiing, flying airplanes, or simply playing guitar by the lake.

Steve looks forward to helping guests access new and remote places, and sharing in the excitement of seeing Arctic wildlife.
