At Sea

Sometime in the night we started rolling from side to side as we entered the Drake Passage. We do not have quite the Drake Lake, but we do have good conditions and so we are making good time towards the Antarctic Peninsula. The ship rolls from side to side, so it is quite funny to watch people as they walk down the halls. Everybody ends up with their feet on one side of the hallway, while their upper body is on the other side! Since the Drake is relatively quiet, everyone has been showing up for meals! The food is quite good; I was expecting more basic fare. Everything is tasty and prepared fresh right there in the dining room. We had the opportunity to go to several lectures today. One was about the birds we might see around the ship, another was about whales, and the last one was about geology. They were all interesting and gave us information about what we might see.

Tonight we were told that we are making good time and we might do our first landing tomorrow around 5 PM. So late afternoon we were given presentations about the rules of visiting Antarctica, as well as how to use the Zodiacs for the landings. Everyone is quite happy that we might get ashore tomorrow eve!! Hope to get more sleep tonight so we are wide awake when we get to our first landing!!Hoping the conditions on the Drake continue to be good to us!!
