3 min read
Remote destinations are some of the most popular travel excursions for people who appreciate great adventures. Having an opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, wildlife, and away from human-made structures allows you to get back in touch with nature. Such journeys enable you to reset your mind, realign your energy, and embrace exciting experiences you never thought possible.

One of the places that provides these incredible opportunities is Patagonia, which is in the southern part of Chile and Argentina at the southern tip of South America. It's a land ripe with scenic mountains, cascading waterfalls, fast-flowing rivers and beautiful lakes you'd typically encounter in a nature documentary.
Views of massive glaciers, as shown here,  are among the highlights for Quark Expeditions' guests traveling in Patagonia.

As an adventurer, you might ask yourself: what should be part of my Patagonia Chile expedition packing list if I want to truly experience all that the land has to offer? This guide will help you prepare for the trip of a lifetime.

Patagonia Chile weather conditions

Weather is an important factor in determining the best time to undertake an expedition to Patagonia. Since it lies on the cusp of the Atlantic, Pacific and Southern Oceans, the weather patterns can be ever-changing. The waves are especially strong during the winter months when the wind gusts rise to gale force as they batter the coast.

For that reason, the best time to visit Patagonia in safe weather conditions is in the summer months of March through May. This is the time of year when the waves are calm enough that vessels built for these types of excursions, such as Ultramarine, can safely reach much-anticipated destinations like Cape Horn, the Diego Ramirez Islands, and the Beagle Channel.

One of the most amazing aspects about exploring Patagonia is the amount of wildlife that inhabits the region You'll have the opportunity to see incredible gatherings of rare species like the white albatross, the rockhopper penguin, the Patagonian toothfish, and many more amazing animals that call this land home.

That's why you should look into optional gear you can bring along on your expedition. Chief amongst those options is a high resolution DSLR camera that's built to capture these iconic moments of nature.

Once again, high resolution cameras that can capture every little detail of these moments are some of the best items you can pack for your adventure. You'll likely be provided binoculars by your adventure leaders, but you'll want to bring a camera of your own for the experience.
