About Alex Deschenes-Philion
Alex has always had a huge interest in the outdoors and a deep love of the environment. This explains his passions, such as snowboarding, trekking, cycling, canoeing and kayaking, which have created several opportunities to explore different parts of the world. He holds a bachelor’s degree in geography from the University of Quebec in Montreal and a master’s degree in international development with a specialization in environmental sustainability from the University of Ottawa.
Having started his outdoor career in such fields as lifeguarding, forestry and bungee jumping, Alex was drawn to the Canadian Arctic thanks to a mix of luck and stubbornness. Over the last few years, he has had the opportunity to participate in different land-based projects across Canada’s North.
More recently, just like the Arctic tern, Alex decided to migrate south to Antarctica in the austral summer, to work as a kayak guide. Exploring the southern latitudes has strengthened his passion for the Polar Regions.
