Alasdair is a Shuttleworth Foundation Fellow and Senior Technical Specialist with the Zoological Society of London and. He has over 10 years’ experience developing and designing novel technologies to solve conservation challenges in the field. A key focus of Alasdair’s work is to develop affordable, open, customizable technologies and solutions in partnership with field conservationists.
In 2014 he joined the Ocean Diamond together with Tom Hart to deploy satellite connected time-lapse cameras to monitor Adélie penguin colonies in real time. This season he is returning with Tom to develop cheap time-lapse cameras that last in Antarctica. If these work, they will be deployed around the world objective to design and deploy a series of cheaper, configurable devices to help scale up Penguin Lifeline’s conservation field work.
