About Federico Gargiulo

After graduating from University del Salvador in Buenos Aires with a degree in Tourism Management, Federico worked in the hospitality and tourism sectors. This enabled him to move to Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, where he worked as a guide for several years. In this remote place, he realized the so-called end of the world, as some call Ushuaia, was actually the springboard for new geographies. Penniless but determined to travel further south, he somehow managed to sail to Antarctica aboard an old threemasted ship, paying for his ticket with sweat and blood. During that glorious and certainly grueling voyage in 2005, he fell in love with the White Continent. Years later, the Arctic would cast its spell on him (luckily this time he was paid). With many seasons working under the polar skies, he still finds reasons to feel amazed and moved, and is always eager to share his deep passion for polar history with you.
When Federico is not in the Polar Regions, he devotes his days and nights to other passions such as tango dancing, traveling, running, listening to old vinyls and writing children's books. A keen entrepreneur, he spends much of his non-polar time managing his two companies, a travel business and a travel literature publishing house. He lives in the world capital of tango, the city of Buenos Aires, and is fluent in Spanish and English, but also speaks German and un petit peu of French.
