Born and raised in Patagonia, Fernando has dedicated his life to the ocean. He acquired his skipper’s license at age 22 and has worked in the Atlantic Ocean ever since. He is qualified to drive whale-watching boats, as well as tug and pilot boats.
When not guiding in Antarctica, Fernando also runs a scuba diving center called Abramar Buceo with his wife, Mariana. It is on the beautiful Puerto Madryn coastline in Argentine Patagonia. His facility is one of the few diving centers certified to lead snorkeling and scuba diving excursions with sea lions in the nature reserves of the province of Chubut. Enjoying the presence of the South American sea lions, along with southern right whales, common dolphins, and dusky dolphins is a highlight of Fernando’s daily life.
He has been guiding with Quark Expeditions since 2011. Being in the Polar Regions and in the ocean is very important to Fernando, and he is committed to helping you understand the beauty of this magnificent region.
