Greg Potter

Expedition Guide, Geology & Glaciology Presenter

Greg is a professional guide, exploration geologist, and science communicator. He was first drawn to the earth sciences in awe of the processes shaping our landscape, though it was the high ratio of field days to classroom days that ultimately had him hooked. Working as an exploration geologist took him from the quiet corners of his native UK to remote Tanzanian mountains and Scandinavian forests. These expeditions instilled a passion for adventure and in 2018 he made the leap to become a full-time guide. The cold waters of British Columbia are now his home.

Since 2018, Greg has been guiding whale and bear watching excursions in Clayoquot Sound, sharing charismatic megafauna and feathered curiosities with keen visitors. He uses this opportunity to document wildlife sightings for local researchers and to assist responders in marine mammal emergencies.

His fascination with the polar regions was sparked on a Patagonian adventure in 2016 after meeting charming penguins, trekking to the southernmost mainland point of the Americas and imagining what more lies beyond the Strait of Magellan. When Greg isn’t guiding, he has hobbies which typically involve being distracted by seabirds when he intended to go surfing, or holding up the golf course while watching nighthawks.
