Matt DeLong calls Nova Scotia, Canada home, where the rugged Atlantic coastline has shaped both his work and his way of life. He is a Paddle Canada Instructor Trainer, a certified Lead Guide with the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC, an alpine ski instructor, and a commercial fisher. While this is his first time working in the polar regions, Matt previously lived and worked in northern British Columbia for five years, an experience that deepened his respect for remote landscapes and the communities connected to them.Outside of guiding, Matt enjoys camping and hunting, pursuits that keep him tied to seasonal rhythms and immersed in the outdoors. He finds these experiences spark some of the best campfire conversations, from stories of wildlife encounters to the simple joys of life lived close to nature. For first-time adventure travelers, Matt’s advice is to come with curiosity and flexibility—weather and wildlife don’t always follow a schedule, but often the most unplanned moments are the most rewarding. Matt loves watching polar guests discover that sense of wonder for themselves, whether it’s the first sight of an iceberg or the quiet stillness of a frozen landscape.
