Toby Vacher

Expedition Guide, History Presenter

Born in the UK to a naval officer father and a racing sailor mother, Toby has spent a large part of his life on or under the water. Powerboating, wingfoiling, SCUBA diving, and sailing in warmer climates, he’s also a lifelong fan of the frozen stuff.

He first visited Antarctica as a guest and realized while on board exactly what his next career move was going to be! Before that, he had climbed glacial volcanoes in Ecuador, trekked mountains in New Zealand, Russia, and the European Alps, and snowboarded down a few in Canada. He has a degree in Psychology, which somehow led to working as a magician, a tech startup product manager, and then as a drinks entrepreneur and professional gin taster, running his own company for eight years before selling it.

Toby uses his Psychology background to put a unique spin on the history of the polar regions, with a particular focus on how humans cope in extreme environments and the history of exploration. He might show you a magic trick — and yes, he can read your mind.
