Pauline Robert de Gesnais

Expedition Guide, French Expedition Guide, Geology & Glaciology Presenter

Pauline began her polar experience in 2012–2013 by spending seven months aboard a scientific sailboat overwintering in Greenland. During that time, she learned a great deal about Greenlandic culture, dog sledding, and polar fishing. She also learned that, to make the most of polar regions, you should do what you can when you can, as weather can quickly change your options and opportunities may not come around again. Since then, she spent four years sharing her passion for Greenland, guiding guests aboard her and her husband’s sailboat as well as supporting scientific missions on board. She has also been guiding guests in Antarctica and the Arctic aboard Quark ships since 2017.

Enthusiastic about explaining scientific and physical topics — particularly those related to ice — she tends to compare every situation to a food experience, perhaps because she is French. Originally, she is an environmental engineer specializing in agriculture, forestry, energy, and economic sciences. She studied for a semester in Chile and would love to be able to speak Spanish. She also tried to learn Chinese but is still at the very beginning. Passionate about nature, you can also find her in France managing forests or planting trees. She loves to discuss and learn, which is why she has start
