Ken’s inaugural trip to Antarctica in 2000 was a transformative experience. Seeing his first Wandering Albatross at 1 metre gliding past his port hole during a severe storm was defining moment. His fascination with the avian world goes back as long as he can remember. Ken’s polar guiding career has spanned more than two decades with a multitude of trips to Antarctica, Falklands and South Georgia. He has crossed the South Atlantic from Ushuaia to Cape Town twice, visiting the very remote archipelago of Tristan da Cunha. He has also cruised the West African coast, South Africa and Madagascar.
More recently he has travelled widely in the Arctic regions and has navigated the Northwest Passage. Ken has an infectious passion and curiosity for the amazing natural world we are so privileged to witness. He enjoys looking for seabirds, rare and colourful lichens and marine mammals. He documents his observations photographically and using citizen science platforms like eBird and iNaturalist. When not guiding on expedition ships, he is often sea kayaking, hiking and snowshoeing.
Ken looks forward to seeing you on deck or ashore during this voyage!
