Julie Bernier

Expedition Guide, French Expedition Guide

Naturalist, traveler, and adventurer, Julie’s enthusiasm and passion are contagious; she is excited to share her love and knowledge of the environment.

Julie is originally from Lévis, Québec, and the shores of the St. Lawrence River have always been a place of adventure and discovery for her. Julie’s love for nature and thirst for exploration has brought her north of 60, where she now calls the Yukon wilderness home.

Julie graduated in biogeography from the University of Quebec in Rimouski. She has participated in a variety of research projects, including the enumeration of Pacific salmon stocks on northern rivers, the behavior of hoary marmots in the Yukon mountains, and camera trapping cheetahs and lions in Africa.

Like many northerners, Julie possesses a versatile array of skills. She has worked as a wildlife technician, a wilderness guide, and in the film and dental industries. Always seeking new adventures or new berry patches, Julie also enjoys her quiet time at home in her off-the-grid cabin in the beautiful Yukon pine forest.

Julie’s passion for colder regions ultimately brought her to both polar regions. When she first journeyed to the southern pole in 2022, she fell in love with the sheer abundance of wildlife across the entire southern hemisphere — in particular South Georgia Island and its rich breeding grounds for seabirds, penguins, and marine life.

Since joining the expedition cruise ship industry in 2016, Julie has fulfilled her lifelong dream of sailing in Arctic and Antarctic waters and is excited to share her passion for adventure and discovery with others.
