About Paola Palavecino

General Presenter & Expedition Guide

Biography

Born and raised in southern Chile, growing up Paola developed a love of and respect for nature, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, hills and endless vineyards near the Andes. A divemaster, entrepreneur, sailor, lecturer and passionate traveler, she has spent a vast part of her life working in sustainable tourism and environmental management.

Paola started her own birdwatching and whale-watching company, sailing through marine reserves in the north and south of Chile. Through this work, she received 2 national awards and was also invited to give lectures as a motivational speaker to support startup projects in Chile. She has also given lectures about sustainability in the tourism industry.

When Paola isn’t working, she volunteers with different seabird and marine mammal conservation projects, such as the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds’ Albatross Task Force. This successful program works with the fishing industry in the Southern Hemisphere to implement seabird bycatch mitigation measures to save the albatross and other threatened seabirds.

Paola has been traveling to the ice since 2005, enjoying each second of it, its wildlife, lectures and the daily adventures. For her, the best part of polar expeditions is that each day is different.
