RedRocks is from Denver, Colorado. He has a Ph.D. in biomedical physics and worked as a professor and scientist in cancer and other medical related research. His passion for nature, photography and travel eventually led to a complete career change. Â He has been a contributing photographer/writer for National Geographic Traveler (China) for over 20 years and published hundreds of articles and thousands of images for numerous travel magazines and authored several books (and yes, he also has over a hundred peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals).
RedRocks has traveled all 7 continents and been on assignments from the floe edge of Nunavut Canada to the peak of Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. Â He has explored and documented all over Tibet in China, the entire lengths of the rivers of Danube and Rhine in Europe, Mississippi and Colorado in US, Mekong in Southeast Asia. The Polar Regions are always his favorite.Â
His passion for travel and expedition eventually led him to Antarctica. Â He has been a Quark expedition team member since 2016 and completely enjoys sharing his experience with our friends from around the world.Â
When not traveling, RedRocks enjoys hiking in the mountains of Colorado and quiet time  with his Chinese calligraphy and the traditional “wet” darkroom for the negatives from his old film cameras.
